Tulle Review and Giveaway

The good folks at Tulle were kind enough to send me this darling collarless blazer to review.* My inner snob has long rebelled against the idea of faux leather, but this piece has convinced me, once and for all, that tremendous strides have been made in the design and manufacture of pleather. Yes, it squeaks a bit when I move, but people? This is so close to the real thing - right down to the wrinkles and texture - that I can pretty much guarantee everyone you know will be fooled.

And, I'm delighted to report, that Tulle is letting me give one of these blazers away to you! Here's how you enter to win:
  1. Visit the Tulle website.

  2. Make sure they have this blazer in your size. (I'm a size 6 or 8 on top, and the medium is a wee bit roomy on me. Also this piece has relatively long arms, FYI.)

  3. Leave a comment on this post telling which color blazer you hope to win, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified.

  4. Cross your fingers!

Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, December 26. I'll draw a winner at random the following week. This contest is open to all readers, including international. Good luck, everyone!

Land's End Coat Review and Giveaway

I spent my first five years as a Minnesotan wearing a wool peacoat all winter long. Back in 2005, I finally bought a fitted down parka that has been my faithful cold weather companion ever since. But it drives me a bit nuts. You'd think that an incredibly expensive North Face coat would hold up over the years, but it really hasn't. The collar and sleeves have become a bit goopy and gross, despite frequent washings. And those washings have caused the coat to leak little white feathers onto me all winter long. ANNOYING.

So I've been pondering buying a new one. Black, despite my love for color, to hide the wear and tear a bit better. And maybe something with a better hood.

But before I could even begin my search, the good folks at Land's End asked if I'd be willing to review one of THEIR down coats.* You can guess what I said.

I got this gorgeous little number in the mail just in time for the first big Minnesota snow dump. It's the Chevron Down Coat, and at full price it costs HALF of what my North Face set me back.

And you're going to have to put up with a lot of photos of it, because I am IN LOVE. I wore my old coat to the gym this same day, and I can tell you that this baby is hella warmer. Plus I just adore the contouring.

And did I mention the hood? Ach, the CUTENESS. And it's roomy and warm and stays in place. A real, useful, wind-blocking hood.

Main objection: The three snaps at the coat hem. What is the point of those? They let the wind through even when fastened and look a bit dopey, in my opinion. I wish the double-ended zipper just went all the way down.

Awesome aspects: Snug fleece cuffs embedded in the sleeves keep the wind out beautifully, the stand-up collar is warm and soft, and it really, truly is warmer than my North Face. No kidding.

So, now that I've made you super jealous, let's talk about how you can get one of these coats for yourself. For free! Here's how you enter to win:
  1. Be a U.S. resident.

  2. Visit the Land's End outerwear section.

  3. Leave a comment on this post telling which coat you'd like to win, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified.

  4. Cross your fingers!

Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, December 12. I'll draw a winner at random the following week. This contest is open to U.S. residents only. Good luck, everyone!

360 Scarf Review and Giveaway

The lovely creator of a little gizmo called the 360 Scarf contacted me to see if I'd be willing to do a review and giveaway. And as the owner of dozens of scarves, I hesitated. But as a resident of a state that boasts freezing temps and copious snow, I figured I should give this invention a whirl!

This is what the 360 Scarf looks like laid flat. It comes in many colors and patterns, but I selected the Multi Mohair option*. I'm a sucker for anything multicolored.

The back of the scarf is lined with soft black polar fleece, which makes it fully reversible. You can also see that the two end tabs have velcro on 'em. That's because ...

... you wear the 360 Scarf by wrapping the tabs around the back of your neck, securing them, and tucking the point into the opening of your coat. Unlike traditional scarves, this product covers every inch of potentially-exposed chest. No unruly loops that leave your neck and collarbone exposed to the elements. You can also pull the 360 Scarf up over your nose and mouth on particularly cold days. Full coverage, soft and warm.

Is it a bit gimmicky? Yes. But it's a smart gimmick. If you walk your dog on early winter mornings, make a long trek to work, or have to high-tail it across campus to class several times a day, this little invention will protect your sensitive neckparts against chill and wind better than the average scarf. And it's absolutely adorable to boot.

Luckily, the good folks at 360 Scarf are letting me give another one away to you lucky folks! Here's how you enter to win:
  1. Visit the 360 Scarf website.

  2. Leave a comment on this post telling which color scarf you'd love to win, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified.

  3. Cross your fingers!

Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, November 21. I'll draw a winner at random the following week. This contest is open to all readers, including international. Good luck, everyone!

April Kawaoka Review and Coupon

I got in touch with artisan April Kawaoka several months ago when I raved about my love for her designs. She was kind enough to send me a pair of her Swirly Keen earrings to review.*

Unsurprisingly, the packaging was just as elegant as the earrings themselves.

Now, I own lots of hoops in lots of configurations, but these are fabulous in some very specific ways. They're heavy enough to feel substantial and high-quality, but not so heavy that they pull at my lobes. The dual hoops have loads of lovely movement, and sway beautifully when I walk or turn my head. And they walk that line between quirky and classic - they're pared-down enough to go with everything, but have loads of personality at the same time. I'm gaga for 'em, as you can see from recent outfit posts.

ALL of April's wares are breathtakingly beautiful, and I'm quite sure everything in her shop is just as well-made as my Swirly Keen earrings. She's been generous enough to offer Already Pretty readers 10% off any purchase! Just enter "alreadypretty" in the message to seller section when you check out, and April will send you a revised invoice. The code is valid through November 30, 2010.

And yes, these items will set you back more dough than jewelry items from mall stores ... but April sources and buys her own materials, designs and manufactures everything herself. She's a one-woman show and you'd be supporting a true artisan. Plus, since her pieces are high-quality, they'll last and last. Just a few things to consider ...

Let me know if you buy anything!

Casualmere Review and Giveaway

I was thrilled when the folks at Casualmere contacted me to host a review and giveaway. I love being able to give stuff away to you all, but love it twice as much when it's GREEN.

This company creates butter-soft knits from from high-quality viscose made from bamboo and their garments feature the highest ecologically sourced bamboo content – typically 100 percent, though a few pieces include 5 percent spandex for a bit of stretch. The women's line is fairly small, but has some great basics: Tees, scarves, and my favorite, some darling tee-shirt dresses.

I was sent a short-sleeved bamboo tee-shirt dress to review and keep. I'll be honest: On its own, it's not exactly my most thrilling or flattering garment. Which might be, in part, because I requested a size large and probably could've made do with a medium.

HOWEVER! This dress is already part of about 15 outfits in my outfit list for fall and winter, because it's utterly perfect for layered looks like this one.

The dress is a bit clingy and benefits from a slip, but it's fabulously soft, comfortable, and lightweight enough to make an ideal base-layer. I intend to wear the living daylights out of it!

Lucky for you, I've got a little black bamboo dress to give away! Here's how you enter to win:
  1. Be a U.S. resident.

  2. Visit the Casualmere website.

  3. Leave a comment on this post telling how you'd style this dress, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified.

  4. Either like Casualmere on Facebook, or follow Casualmere on Twitter, or sign up for their e-newsletter (bottom right corner of the page).

  5. Cross your fingers!

Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, November 14. I'll draw a winner at random the following week. This contest is open to U.S. residents only. Good luck, everyone!

Sperry Topsider Review and Giveaway

The good folks at Sperry Topsider gave me the chance to try out a couple of pairs of their new fall boots,* and I was happy to oblige. I was asked to select one pair from their fashion line, so I chose these Bayshore moccasin boots.

While these boots aren't exactly my usual style, they fit in with my more rugged fall and winter weekend looks. And man alive, are they COMFY. The run quite narrow, so those with wider soles beware ... but the construction is great, the flexible soles a joy to walk on, and the lace-up design both cute and easy on the calves.

I was also asked to chose a pair of waterproof boots, so I picked out the Pelican in black. I'll admit to lusting after a pair of Hunter wellies for several seasons, but never wanted to pony up ... mostly because I didn't think they'd be warm enough for winter, and therefore have limited application here in Minnesota.

Kittens, these Pelicans are so fantastic, I plan to chuck my old North Face snowboots and wear these all winter. They're lined in fleece, softer than a pair of slippers, have great traction, and are cute as can be. I wore them for a long afternoon or raking and felt like I was walking on air the whole time.

Sperry Topsider has ALSO offered to give one Already Pretty reader a new pair of boots! You lucky folks can choose from the Chatsworth, Ladyfish, Sandfish, Northstar, and Bayshore styles.

Tsubo Fall Line Roundup and Giveaway!

Now you all know I adore Tsubos. Anyone who's been reading the blog for more than ten seconds knows THAT. But when I got my hot little hands on a copy of their fall lookbook, I'm telling you, friends, I nearly expired from shoe-lust. The company has really stepped up their game for this collection, and I was extremely lucky to receive several pairs to review.*

These spectacular boots are the Hepats, far and away the most daring style Tsubo has ever created. They are supple, soft, over-the-knee boots with extensive lacing and they are beyond badass. Obviously.

They're also, as you might expect, ridiculously comfortable. They've got a slight wedge heel, but have the loveliest sculpted footbed that feels like a delightful little pillow for your arch. As funky and daring as these boots look, they FEEL like the footwear equivalent of pajamas. I kid you not.

These fine fellows are the Olapa boots. The gray areas are leather, and the blue is a stretchy textile of some sort. Although getting them on is no mean feat, and although they're quite fitted through the calf, these spaceman-esque boots are just as dreamy to wear as their Hepat bretheren.

The Olapa has the exact same wedge and footbed design as the Hepat - and, incidentally, as the darling Mary Jane-style Asmik - and the combination of impeccably designed lower and stretchy, forgiving upper makes this another winner of a style.

And even if both pairs of boots are a little out-there for your taste, I'm betting these Dufay pumps will send ya. I will remain forever faithful to my Acreas, but these Dufays are now running a close second.

Last year, Tsubo came out with a similarly styled pump - the lovely Amset - which I have in red suede and simply adore. But suede can be tricky, and these Dufays have very similar styling, a slightly lower heel, a blunter toe, and are available in this gorgeous cognac and a rich red leather. Win, win, win.

A couple of other things about the fall offerings that are making me giddy with glee:

But enough of the reviewing. Let's talk giveaway, shall we? Tsubo is letting me hand out not one, but TWO pairs of those truly terrific Dufay pumps to two lucky Already Pretty readers! Here's how you enter to win:
  1. Visit the Tsubo website.

  2. Leave a comment on this post telling which color Dufay you'd love to win, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified.

  3. Cross your fingers!

Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, October 31. I'll draw winners at random the following week. This contest is open to all readers, including international. Good luck, everyone!
