Gudrun Sjödén Review and Giveaway

Confession time: I've recommended Swedish designer Gudrun Sjödén's vibrant line of funky, creative clothing to many friends and clients. I did this for two reasons: The first is that I've never seen anything quite like her designs, which are loose and forgiving but also arty and eye-catching. The second is that I passed along my very first Gudrun catalog to my old boss - a petite, apple-shaped woman who was, hands down, one the best-dressed human beings I've ever met - and she ADORED the pieces she ordered and wore. All that said, I'd never tried or worn any of Gudrun's designs myself.

Until now! And I'm thrilled (and relieved) to report that they're every bit as comfortable and well-made as I'd hoped. I was sent the Krumelur eco-cotton/modal jersey tunic to try and keep.*

This tunic makes me deeply happy. It's fitted toward the top and flares at the bottom, which is pretty much my ideal shape. The print is such fun - quirky for sure, but done in a subdued palette so it doesn't veer off into psychedelia. And construction is top-notch. Just love the subtle ruching detail at the left shoulder. This may be my first, Gudrun piece, but I'm certain it will not be my last. (Sizing note: Garments run fairly large. I took a size small and am typically a size medium/8-10 in mall sizes.)
I'm unspeakably excited to be partnering with Gudrun Sjödén for a giveaway! The winner will be able to select the garment of her choice from the Gudrun website. Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Visit Gudrun Sjödén and peruse the gorgeous offerings.
  2. Leave a comment on this post telling us which garment you'd select from the shop if you won, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified. (Best policy: note your e-mail like this: sally [at] alreadypretty [dot] com)
  3. Cross your fingers!
Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, September 15, 2013. I'll draw a winner at random the following day. This giveaway is open to everyone, including international readers.

Good luck!

Ella Umbrella Review and Giveaway

Minneapolis isn't a terribly rainy city most years, but we've had LOADS of rain so far this spring and summer and I'm sure there's more to come. So when the folks at Ella Umbrella reached out, I was eager to work with them. The company is locally owned, and stocks windproof, travel, golf, and many other styles of umbrellas. Many of which feature gorgeous prints and thoughtful design details.

I have a sky-print umbrella that I adore, but it is a hook style and quite large. In addition to the local rain we've been experiencing, I'm planning for an upcoming trip to a rainy clime so I opted for a collapsible style. I was sent this Marimekko Lumimarja Auto Lux Umbrella to review and keep.*

This is a $69 umbrella, which seems like a lot of dough. But I've been using cheapie collabsibles for decades and let me tell you there's a reason the Auto Lux is spendy. It is WORLDS better than every other collapsible I've ever used. For starters, the compact case actually has a zipper, making it a thousand times easier to slip the collapsed umbrella back in. The action is remarkably smooth - lacking the jerkiness of most similar models - and the construction is sturdy, holding up admirably to fairly gusty wind. When you're holding this umbrella, you can just tell it's a high-quality model. And, of course, it's awfully pretty.

I'm a sucker for a Marimekko print - Ella Umbrella stocks seven - and this elegant neutral has won my heart.

I'm delighted to be partnering with Ella Umbrella to offer one Already Pretty reader the umbrella of her choice, value up to $69! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Be a U.S. resident.
  2. Visit Ella Umbrella and peruse the gorgeous offerings.
  3. Leave a comment on this post telling us which umbrella you'd select from the shop if you won, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified. (Best policy: note your e-mail like this: sally [at] alreadypretty [dot] com)
  4. Cross your fingers!
Enter by midnight CST on Sunday, July 21, 2013. I'll draw a winner at random the following day. This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.

Good luck!

Diane Kennedy Review and Coupon Code

Friends, I feel like Diane Kennedy is such a hidden gem of a designer. (Or, anyway, hidden to me as a non-Canadian!) Her gorgeous garments are made in Canada from 100% certified organic bamboo and she designs from a size Small through 3X. From the company site:

"All of our premium quality garments are ethically produced by local factories paying fair wages in Vancouver, BC. Made in Canada is taken to heart at Diane Kennedy; our regular and plus size clothing is designed in Vancouver, our fabric is knitted in Canada, and even our labels are locally made."

Amazing, right? And the clothes themselves are artistic, eye-catching, and fun to wear.

I was sent the Explore Tunic and Rejuvenate Legging - both in size medium - to try and keep.* Both pieces are fabulously soft and comfortable. I love the asymmetric detailing on the tunic, though I found the shallow cowl neckline a little fussy. I was amazed to find that a drop-waist like this could work for my figure, and am excited to try this tunic with other bottoms. The leggings fit beautifully without pinching, hit fairly high on my waist, and have held up beautifully to washing. They're spendy at $95 a pop, but made from organic materials through fair trade practices AND available through 3X in black, gray, navy, and a rich purple.

I'm honored to have been able to partner with such an amazing organization, and hope that some of you will explore Diane Kennedy's offerings! To that end, the company is offering Already Pretty readers a 15% discount on total purchase now through July 27. Just enter PRETTY15 when you check out to get the discount. Thanks to Diane Kennedy!

Florence Adams Review and Giveaway

I'd been looking for a teal skirt for AGES when I finally stumbled upon this little pleated number at Florence Adams, a site that sells everything from furniture and cookware to apparel and accessories. At the bargain price of $32.99 I was delighted to pony up. And when the folks at Florence Adams asked if I'd like to collaborate, I knew I had to so that some of you could nab these darling skirts for yourselves!

I was sent the yellow skirt to review and keep.*

Pleats make me so happy, and these skirts have pleats aplenty. They're made from a polyester/rayon/spandex blend that never wrinkles and has plenty of comfy stretch to it. As you can see here the skirts are fairly long at 26" and have a fairly high yoked waist but with an unfinished hem they will be easy to alter. This skirt is lightweight enough for summer wear, but transitions beautifully to fall and winter with the addition of tights. It's a great basic with fun details and is currently available in yellow, fuchsia, mint, and coral.

I'm thrilled to have TWO $50 gift cards to Florence Adams to give away to two lucky Already Pretty readers! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Like the Florence Adams Facebook page. This step required for entry.
  2. Visit Florence Adams and peruse the gorgeous offerings.

Shop Adorn Review, Giveaway, and Coupon Codes!

I'm so excited to be working with my friends at Shop Adorn once more! This boutique is located in Portland, Oregon, but also has a thriving online presence and carries some of my favorite brands including Prairie Underground. YES! If you're sick of hearing me sing the praises of Praire, the time has come to plug your ears.

I was sent two Prairie Underground pieces that are currently on pre-order to review and keep.*

This is the Hunter Vest in Mushroom, and it is SUCH a cool piece. Made from a combination of knits and wovens stitched together into a funky-yet-rugged longer vest, it makes even the most casual outfits eye-catching.

This item also comes in a gorgeous electric red which is currently on pre-order at Shop Adorn.

In all of these photos and the one below, I'm also wearing my new favorite cropped jeans, the Prairie Underground Cigarette Leggings.

Prairie denim is incredibly comfortable, but also quite stretchy so I requested these in a medium instead of my usual large. They're snug fresh from the wash, but loosen up a bit over the course of the day. Unlike my Girdle Leggings, they have a side zip, which I definitely prefer. They have held their shape beautifully after lots of washing and wearing, and are definitely going to be a summer staple. The Cigarette Leggings are also available for pre-order through Shop Adorn.

Now, there's giveaway info below but first some fabulous coupon codes! You can apply PRETTY10 for 10% off regular priced items and PRETTY20 for 20% off sale items. These codes are valid through June 30, 2013.

I'm thrilled to have a $75 credit to Shop Adorn to give away to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Visit Shop Adorn and peruse the gorgeous offerings.
  2. Leave a comment on this post telling us which item you'd select from the shop if you won, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified. (Best policy: note your e-mail like this: sally [at] alreadypretty [dot] com)

Nygard Review and Giveaway

I'll admit that I'd never heard of Nygard before, so when the company contacted me I wasn't sure what to expect. But after perusing the petite, regular, and plus-size offerings in the Peter Nygard line and the fun basics available in the Bianca Nygard line, I was excited to see a garment in person. I was sent this Bianca Nygard ladies jacket to review and keep.*

I adore blazers and am constantly on the lookout for new and eye-catching colors. This Bianca Nygard ladies jacket - the Cotton Sateen One-Button model - comes in turquoise, citron, coral, cobalt, and seven other colors in addition to this trendy mint that I chose. The blazer is lined, sturdy, and holds its shape well. It runs a bit large - I had to swap out my usual size 8 for a size 6 - and, strangely, the material appears to be a bit of a cat hair-magnet. But overall, I'm impressed with the quality and design. and am eager to explore more garments from the Nygard family.

Nygard has given me a $50 gift card to give away to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Be a resident of North America.
  2. Visit the Nygard website and peruse the gorgeous wares!
  3. Like Nygard on Facebook. You must do this to qualify.

Freshie & Zero Review and Giveaway

I'd say that necklaces are my favorite type of jewelry, and I've been amassing an enviable collection for many, many years. But I gravitate toward long strand and chain styles, which look a bit awkward with my tops and dresses that feature v-necklines. I've been slowly seeking out more pendants - ideally versatile ones - so I was delighted when talented jewelry designer Beth of Freshie & Zero agreed to collaborate on a review and giveaway.

I've actually admired Beth's designs for years, finding them through Etsy and admiring their pared-down, elegant shapes. Everything she does is minimalist, but NOTHING is boring. Each piece is created with care and has eye-catching details.

I was sent the Inky Moonset necklace you see above to review and keep. I adore mixed metals and have been loving gunmetal and oxidized silver lately, so this seemed like a perfect choice. The pendant and chain are delicate, but not to the point of being irritatingly damage-able. This pendant is just like Beth's other designs: Understated but truly lovely. I'm excited to see how I can work it into other outfits!

Beth has generously offered a $50 credit to her Etsy shop to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Visit the Freshie & Zero Etsy shop and peruse the gorgeous designs.
  2. Leave a comment on this post telling us which item you'd select from the Etsy shop if you won, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified. (Best policy: note your e-mail like this: sally [at] alreadypretty [dot] com)
  3. Cross your fingers!
Quick note: Beth ships internationally from Etsy, which is why we're pointing you there. If you see something in her main shop that you adore and win this contest, we'll work that out!

Dansko Review and Giveaway

I used to be a die-hard Dansko girl, but have drifted away from the brand in recent years. The company will always be on my list of recommended brands for anyone who needs 8-hour standing or walking shoes, but since I seldom need those things myself, I've gravitated toward more showy and less pragmatic styles.

But the spring sandal offerings from Dansko were too adorable to resist, so when the company reached out about a collaboration I sprung (ha ha) at the chance! I was sent this pair of Tasha sandals to review and keep.*

So first off, COBALT! And they come in a gorgeous green and bright red as well as black, tan, and brown. As is the case with all Danskos, they're fantastically comfortable and beautifully constructed. The leather straps are a bit stiff and will take a bit of breaking in, but it'll be worth it. I'm a size 8 shoe and have done 39s in Danskos for ages, and although these 38s are just barely big enough I think the 39s would've been huge on me. I'm so excited to have these sculptural, fun sandals to wear for the coming summer.

AND I'm delighted to have a pair of Danskos to give away to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Be a resident of the United States or Canada.
  2. Visit the Dansko website and peruse the spring offerings.
  3. Leave a comment on this post telling us which pair you'd select from the spring offerings if you won, and A VALID E-MAIL. Comments without a valid e-mail in the comment will be disqualified. (Best policy: note your e-mail like this: sally [at] alreadypretty [dot] com)

Miz Mooz Review and Giveaway

I firmly believe that Miz Mooz is one of the most underrated shoe companies out there today, so I reached out to them to see about a spring collaboration. And I was so delighted when they agreed! I was sent the Madrid pump to review and keep.*

As has been the case with every pair of Miz Mooz shoes I've tried on or worn, these are just as comfy as they are stylish. The leather is soft, but construction is sturdy and they're easy to walk in. My only complaint? Sizing runs very large. I'm typically a size 8, and these are a 7.5, If you're between sizes, definitely order down ... and you might consider ordering down even if you're not between sizes! Also these are labeled as "pink" on the site, but are definitely peachy-coral which is how they appear in product photos. Believe your eyes, not the labels.

I'm thrilled to be partnering with Miz Mooz to offer winner's choice of pairs from their website to one lucky Already Pretty winner. (Prize is one pair of shoes.) Here's what you've got to do to enter:
  1. Be a U.S. resident.
  2. Visit the Miz Mooz website and peruse the gorgeous shoes!
  3. Do one of the following: follow Miz Mooz on Twitter OR like Miz Mooz on Facebook OR sign up for the Miz Mooz e-newsletter (bottom right corner of the homepage).

Necklace Review and Giveaway from That's Mine Boutique

I stumbled upon the chunky, on-trend necklace designs from That's Mine Boutique a few weeks ago while roaming around Pinterest, so I was just floored when owner/designer Amy contacted me to do a review and giveaway! Amy has been selling her jewelry in her home state of Maryland, and just recently took the leap into an Etsy shop. She sent me two gorgeous necklaces to review and keep.*

Amy has some truly fabulous color combos available for her simple one- or two-strand necklaces. I adored this gray and yellow one which made a perfect accent for this springy yellow and white striped dress. The stones are actually resin or plastic, which means that even double-strand necklaces are wonderfully lightweight.

And I couldn't resist a super-trendy mint-colored necklace, too! Although many of the necklaces in That's Mine Boutique are pastels, Amy has been adding some bold brights like this two-strand cobalt piece.

Necklaces feature a heart-shaped charm at the clasp, and you can select gold or silver chain and hardware for most necklaces and earrings.

I'm thrilled to be partnering with That's Mine Boutique to give away winner's choice of necklace to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter.

rareEARTH Fragrance Review Giveaway

I'm the kind of person who gets a migraine five seconds after walking into a Bath & Body Works. No fooling. I'm extremely sensitive to smells, especially overpowering ones, and am therefore extremely picky about perfumes. For several years I've spritzed a little of an Aveda essential oil scent most mornings, which smells lovely and fades away after about an hour.

When the lovely folks at Twin Cities-based rareEARTH reached out to see if I'd be interested in trying their products, I hesitated. But when they told me that they use 100% pure essential oils in their scents, create their candles using non-GMO soy wax and natural mineral color, utilize sustainable and cruelty-free materials, and that all of their products are made locally, I was intrigued. This company goes out of its way to avoid artificial colors, dyes, and irritating synthetic fragrances.

I got a lovely care package from rareEARTH and immediately adored the candles. They're just lovely to look at, and are scented with warm, welcoming fragrances. Many of the perfumes turned me off at first. They smell a little harsh when you sniff the bottles. But let me tell you friends, these mixtures become absolutely heavenly once applied to warm skin. I'm particularly fond of the Divino blend, which includes angelica root, jasmine sambac, and oak moss oils. It's spicy and woody, lingers for hours without being overpowering, and makes me feel utterly serene.

I've got a sample set of nine rareESSENCE fragrances - just like the one pictured in the brown organza bag above - to give away to one lucky Already Pretty reader! Here's what you've got to do to enter.

  1. Visit the rareEARTH website and peruse the candles and fragrances.
  2. Do one of the following: follow rareEARTH on Twitter OR like rareEARTH on Facebook OR sign up for the rareEARTH e-newsletter (bottom right corner of the homepage).
