Minneapolis isn't a terribly rainy city most years, but we've had LOADS of rain so far this spring and summer and I'm sure there's more to come. So when the folks at Ella Umbrella reached out, I was eager to work with them. The company is locally owned, and stocks windproof, travel, golf, and many other styles of umbrellas. Many of which feature gorgeous prints and thoughtful design details.
I have a sky-print umbrella that I adore, but it is a hook style and quite large. In addition to the local rain we've been experiencing, I'm planning for an upcoming trip to a rainy clime so I opted for a collapsible style. I was sent this Marimekko Lumimarja Auto Lux Umbrella to review and keep.*
This is a $69 umbrella, which seems like a lot of dough. But I've been using cheapie collabsibles for decades and let me tell you there's a reason the Auto Lux is spendy. It is WORLDS better than every other collapsible I've ever used. For starters, the compact case actually has a zipper, making it a thousand times easier to slip the collapsed umbrella back in. The action is remarkably smooth - lacking the jerkiness of most similar models - and the construction is sturdy, holding up admirably to fairly gusty wind. When you're holding this umbrella, you can just tell it's a high-quality model. And, of course, it's awfully pretty.
I'm a sucker for a Marimekko print - Ella Umbrella stocks seven - and this elegant neutral has won my heart.
